14th Anniversary Celebration for Fundraiser   part 3+

The speech of  George Chin  /The Chairman of Chinatown Adelaide of South Australia

On behalf of Dr Han (on my right and Geoff Phan on my left) and the other members of the organising committee, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all of you to tonight Event.

First of all, I want to introduce members of our Organising Committee to all of you. As I mention your names, could I ask you to wave your hands so that we can all recognise you. Dr. Z De Han, Geoff Phan, Susan Lee, Claudia Cream, Scott Hastings, Peng Choo, Christina Yeow, Daisy Gan, last not the least, Anton Radosevic.  Without your untiring efforts, we would not be able to have tonight event. Give them a big hand!!!

Tonight event is about celebrating SACW for reaching the 14th Year milestone and receiving the 2010 Governor’s Multicultural Media Finalist Awards both in the Organisation & Individual categories. SACW is the oldest established Chinese newspapers in South Australia and has served the Chinese community well.

Tonight is also about acknowledging the achievements of Leanne Choo, an Australian born second generation of Asian migrants, currently the top internationally ranked Badminton player in Australia at the age of twenty, after taking up the sport at very young age of eleven. She is now training and competing very hard in order to qualify herself to represent Australia at the 2012 London Olympics. Tonight Fundraising dinner is a small step towards assisting her to achieve her ambition.

Hopefully through tonight event, we would be able to raise the awareness and the attention of the communities to so many talents and achievers that we have in the Asian Community, both in this generation and our second generation. In this regard, I would like to draw your attention to a small Souvenir Program produced by our organising team highlighting not only the sponsors for tonight events, but also these talents and achievers. I am sure there are many other talents and achievers which have not featured in the Program, for this I must apologise on behalf of the Organising Committee, given the short period of time we have to do this that is the best we can do. I must take this opportunity to thank Daisy Gan, one of our organising committee for taking the initiative to organise and lead the team to do this.

I must take this opportunity to thank the Successive Governments for having the foresight to establish the sort of Multicultural policy that we have today to enable all migrants to build their new lives here. We will remain always grateful for the opportunities that this country has given us.

We would like also to take this opportunity to thank the Lt. Governor Mr Hieu Van Le AO for his tremendous support and invaluable advise throughout the course of organising this dinner. We would like to thank Bill Spurr, the Chair of Education Adelaide and his team and the international students for their support and assistance.

We would like to thank those who have donated towards the Auction Prizes as well as the Raffle Draws prizes and those who have put advertisements in the Souvenir Program.  I must give Special thanks to the Treasurer and Minister for Employment, Training and Further Education, Hon Jack Snelling MP, the Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood for their prizes for the Silent Auction.

We would now like to acknowledge the sponsors. As I call their names, could I ask the representatives to stand up and be acknowledged? Education Adelaide, Ironfish, Westpac banking, University Senior College, Hon Jing Lee MLC, Sealink Travel/Aurora Ozone Hotel.

I would like to thank each and every one of the Organising Committee for all the hard work they have put in for tonight function and to all those who have given their assistance to help make tonight event such a success.

Thanks must go to all the VIPs and all the people who chose to come tonight, without you, we wouldn’t have an event.

Last but not the least; thanks must go the MC tonight.

Now I would like to invite Dr Z De Han to say a few words in Chinese.
